We Started Harvest Happy Farm Because Our Tortoises Deserved Better

I've kept tortoises for over 30 years — Sulcatas, Leopards, Aldabras, and more. And for years, I had the same frustrating experience every tortoise keeper knows: walking the pet store aisles, reading label after label, and finding the same thing over and over. Grains. Fillers. Ingredients that have no place in a grazing tortoise's diet.

The more I learned about how grazing tortoises actually eat in the wild — slowly, steadily, across dry grasslands rich in tough fiber and diverse botanicals — the harder it became to find anything on the market that reflected that reality. I started seeing the consequences in my own animals. Digestion issues. Shell irregularities. The quiet, gradual signs of a diet that wasn't built for them.

So I stopped looking for the right product and started building it.

Grassland Gold was born out of necessity. It's a hay-based, high-fiber tortoise diet made from real grasses and botanicals — no grains, no soy, no fillers, no mystery meals. Harvest Happy Farm isn't a big pet food company. I'm Kenneth, a tortoise keeper with three decades of hands-on experience who got tired of compromising and decided to do something about it. We support rescues, sanctuaries, and education programs because healthy tortoises matter to us beyond the transaction.
